White Wine Tselepos Nychteri 2020. No need to decant. Located in Santorini, the Kanava Chrissou Tselepos winery was born from the collaboration of the oenologist Yiannis Tselepos, owner of the homonymous estate in Arcadia, with the Chrissou family of Santorini. The driving force behind this project was Yiannis Tselepos’ endless search for new horizons in the wine business and the Chrissou family’s dream to use their vineyards in Pyrgos, Emporio, and Mega. Their ultimate goal is to produce high quality wines, expressing the best of Santorini’s winemaking potential. Nychteri is Santorini’s most traditional and famous white wine, produced from extra ripened Assyrtiko grapes traditionally pressed during the night. The grapes, coming from the Pyrgos area, are harvested manually. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels, at a temperature of 15-16 ° C, followed by a period of aging of 8 months on the lees. This is a wine of unique intensity. On the nose, it shows a good complexity of aromas with caramelized citrus, honeycomb, toasted nuts, butter and vanilla. In the mouth, it is exuberant and angular, with excellent concentration and persistent finish. It is a gastronomic wine with an interesting personality and good aging potential. Pair it with blue fish, crab, shellfish, white meats with white sauces or goat cheese.

White Wine Tunella Col Baje Pinot Grigio 2020. Local farmer Min Zorzettig founded Tunella winery back in the 1960s and it is still in the hands of the same family today. In the last couple of decades his grandchildren have focused on producing premium white wines which capture the unique terroir of this corner of eastern Friuli. In total they work 70 hectares planted on suntrap terraces which are cooled in the summer by regular breezes from the nearby Adriatic. This crisp and delicious Pinot Grigio is grown on the area’s classic ponca” or marl and sandstone soils which help to produce incredibly elegant, finely-structured wines with plenty of aromatic character. Fruit for this bottling is harvested at optimum ripeness and then fermented using wild yeasts in large 30 litre Slavonian oak casks. The wine is allowed to rest on the lees over the winter and then bottled when the family deem it ready to drink and enjoy. Bursting with aromatic almond blossom, pears, ripe apricots and hints of toasty oak, this elegant white wine makes an ideal aperitif or partner for seafood, sushi, and leafy salads. On the palate there’s plenty of freshness, a light body, and a long, clean finish with hints of ripe stone fruit and refreshing citrus.

White Wine Tunella Col Matiss Sauvignon 2020. A boutique family-run winery set in the charming eastern hills of Friuli, Tunella is well-known in Italy and beyond for their delicious white wines which capture the beauty and uniqueness of the local terroir. The property was initially founded by farmer Min Zorzettig in the 1960s, but in recent decades it has been completely modernised by his children and grandchildren who now run the winery. In total they have 70 hectares of vines planted on suntrap terraces which enjoy regular cooling breezes from the nearby Adriatic Sea. The soils here are a special blend of marl and sandstone which are known locally as ponca” and help to lock in plenty of freshness and elegance in the finished wines. The grapes for this bottling are carefully harvested at optimum maturity and then fermented using indigenous yeasts in 30 litre Slavonian oak casks. After a period of ageing on the lees over the winter the young wine is then bottled and released. Aromatic notes of sage, ripe peaches, zesty citrus and toasty hints from the oak dominate on the nose, while the palate offers richer tropical and stone fruit flavours with a well-rounded texture and mouthwatering freshness. The great balance between fruit and acidity makes this a great aperitif or partner for seafood served with a refreshing salsa, grilled fish, or spicy Asian dishes.
