White Wine Tselepos Melissopetra Gewurztraminer 2021. No need to decant. Founded in 1989 by the oenologist Giannis Tselepos, the Tselepos Estate winery is perched among the Mantineia vineyards, and equipped with a state-of-the-art cellar and winemaking facilities for the production of quality wine, including sparkling wines produced with the method traditional of Champagne. The vineyards extend for 45 hectares at the eastern foot of Mount Parnon at 750 meters above sea level, and include indigenous grape varieties such as Moschofilero and other international grape varieties. This is a special wine made from 100% Gewurztraminer, coming from the Melissopetra vineyard plot, located at an altitude of 750m on shist soils. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel, to maintain freshness. The wine has a light and brilliant yellow color and all the aromatic intensity typical of this delicious grape variety. On the nose, there is a lot of exotic fruit, but also rose petals, stone fruit and acacia flowers with some final citrus notes. On the palate, the wine is pleasantly dry, with good acidity and medium body. The fruity flavors return with harmonious intensity and the overall sensation is extremely fragrant. Try it with fresh herb sea tartare, Thai food and fish preparations served with exotic spices.

White Wine Tunella Pinot Grigio 2021. Tunella was founded in the 1960s by farmer Min Zorzettig, but it was only in the 1990s that the family revamped the winemaking facilities and reduced production to prioritise quality over quantity. Min’s grandchildren have replanted many of the estate’s vineyards on steep terraces on the eastern Friuli hills which act as sun traps. The vines here are carefully tended by hand and yields are kept low, highlighting the natural character of the grapes and the unique marl and sandstone soils which are locally known as ponca”. This fresh and elegant Pinot Grigio is typical of the Tunella style. It’s crafted from fruit harvested manually from estate vineyards which is gently pressed and destemmed in the winery. The must is then fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel vats followed by a long period of ageing on the lees over the winter to add extra complexity and polish. Fragrant acacia blossom and tropical fruit dominate on the nose while the first sip reveals a mouthwatering acidity, light body, and pure, clean finish with delicate citrus and green apple flavours. The crisp profile makes this a great aperitif or accompaniment for seafood, sushi, grilled fish or even spicy Asian dishes.

White Wine Tunella Sauvignon Blanc 2021. This third-generation family winery is set in the eastern hills of Friuli and specialises in making vibrant white wines and elegant, earthy reds. The estate was founded in the 1960s by Min Zorzettig, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that his grandchildren decided to totally renovate the winery and replant the vineyards to focus on quality production rather than quantity. Yields have been reduced, their 70 hectares of vines are worked by hand, and they use indigenous yeasts for fermentation. This vibrant Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from their terraced vineyards which act as a sun trap in the summer months, helping to fully ripen the fruit. The soils here are a unique blend of marl and sandstone which is known locally as ponca” and gives the wines a notable freshness and elegance. Once in the winery the grapes are pressed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The young wine is left to age on the lees over the winter before bottling. Classic Sauvignon Blanc notes of green apple, freshly-cut grass, stone fruit and citrus define the nose, while the palate offers a crisp freshness, light body, and clean and elegant finish. A great aperitif for a sunny evening or partner for grilled fish, seafood, roast chicken, or leafy salads.
