White Wine Schuster Roter Veltliner Wagram 2021. Serve well chilled. Yellow gold in colour, this wine offers a nose of exotic fruit such as pineapple and mango, pear, almonds and a touch of vanilla. The palate follows through with a mix of ripe fruit while the exotic pineapple and pear are present with spice and a buttery note. The acid is pleasant and balanced with an alcohol content of around 12% producing a relatively full bodied wine. The finish is long and very pleasant. A delight to drink on its own but also a perfect match with Asian cuisine, chicken, pasta, and salad. As with all Schuster wines, the grapes are cultivated very carefully by hand to ensure only the best and ripest fruit is used. An 8 hour long maceration is followed by a gentle pressing. Fermentation occurs in steel tanks to retain the varietal aspects of the wine. The Schuster family have been making wine for over 250 years and still have the passion and drive to be innovative in their approach to making great wines. With this family tradition comes a wealth of knowledge, intuition and desire that has been passed down from generation to generation. Looking at environmentally friendly ways to grow grapes that will result in fabulous wines, means that the flora and fauna of the estate is treated with the utmost respect. Vines are cultivated as gently as possible which is the first stage of producing exceptional wine. White Wine Saints Hills Mala Nevina 2021. One of the youngest wineries on Croatia’s Peljesac peninsula, Saints Hills was founded in 2014 and is headquartered in an ancient stone house a little off the beaten track. It’s very much a family-run estate with various relatives involved in everything from preparing exquisite food for their guests to conducting tours of the winery. Mala Nevina is their exquisite white wine crafted from Istrian Malvasia and Chardonnay sourced from the estate’s St. Ante vineyards located close to the village of Radovani in Istria. These vineyards are planted on the western hillsides of the peninsula with strictly limited yields. The terroir here is ideal for making fresh and characterful white wines thanks to the cooling sea breezes and long sunny summer days which help the grapes achieve a fine balance between acidity and ripe fruit flavours. Exotic tropical fruit, almond blossom and hints of the salty sea characterise the nose, while the palate offers a mouthwatering freshness, plenty of ripe fruit flavours, and a pure, clean finish. Elegant and easy to drink, this is a great white to offer as an aperitif or partner to fresh seafood, leafy salads, grilled fish, or even sushi.
White Wine Sarris Robola of Kefalonia 2021. No need to decant. Sarris Winery is a family winery located in the southwestern sector of Kefalonia that produces natural wines. The vineyards, just over 2 hectares in total, are splendidly terraced with altitudes of over 700 meters, perennially beaten by the sea breeze and surrounded by dense vegetation of pines, orange groves, olive trees and thick Mediterranean scrub. The well-drained soils are rich in limestone. A natural agronomic approach results in wines with explosive fruit and body but balanced by surprising freshness and a peculiar and persistent sapid-mineral note. The Robola variety, known in Slovenia as Rebula and in Italy as Ribolla, in this area takes on unique characteristics for its momentum and depth. The Robola grapes are sourced in a vineyard in the area of Fagias, at an altitude of approximately 700m. After harvest, the grapes are destemmed, crushed, softly pressed, and fermented at a controlled temperature. The resulting wine has a pale lemon color and shows a delicate bouquet of white fruit such as pear, citrus, and green apple. The minerality is intense and even perceivable as a note of wet flint on the nose. The wine is round in the mouth yet with a striking acid note that makes it perfect for oily food. It is fresh, crisp and deep. Try it with fish and chips, tempura, or spaghetti with clams.
