White Wine Rutherford Ranch Chardonnay 2018. The Scotts have been making wine at Rutherford Ranch for over half a century and today the winery is run by the third generation of the family. Set just off the renowned Silverado Trail in Rutherford, the estate has a reputation for being one of California’s most sustainable wineries. The family opt to use natural treatments rather than chemicals wherever possible, including the reliance on natural predators to minimise the risk of pest damage. In 2017 the winery was named California Sustainable Winery of the Year thanks to these efforts. The Scotts specialise in robust Cabernets and creamy Chardonnays like this opulent bottling. Fruit is sourced from estate vineyards and the must is fermented in a combination of oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. This helps preserve the natural freshness and aromatics of the Chardonnay while also adding a rich, creamy texture and subtle toasty notes. Burnt caramel, vanilla and bright tropical fruit immediately burst out of the glass while the first sip reveals a rich, creamy texture, generous full body, and a bright streak of acidity which brings poise and elegance. The long finish and intense fruit flavours make this a great wine to pair with creamy chicken or fish dishes, leafy salads, or rich lasagna and aubergine parmigiana dishes.

White Wine Sean Minor Chardonnay 2018. Sean Minor studied finance at Arizona State University before falling in love with the world of wine. After learning the ropes at Beaulieu Vineyard in Napa, Sean enrolled at UC Davis and continued his winemaking journey with stints in Oregon and at Renwood Winery in California. In 2005 he and his wife Nicole decided to found their own wine brand dedicated to crafting affordable yet delicious wines which express the best of America’s stunning terroirs. Rather than owning their own vineyards the couple source fruit from trusted partner growers in Oregon and California. These are long-term contracts with grape growers who are deeply committed to sustainable agriculture and maintaining excellent quality year after year. Sean’s impressive Chardonnay offers superb value for money thanks to the care and attention that goes into every aspect of the grape growing and winemaking. Fruit is sourced from the cooler Sonoma Coast AVA and the must is fermented in French oak barrels where it ages for 10 months prior to bottling. This creates a rich yet balanced Chardonnay which is bursting with ripe peaches and apricots as well as hints of French pastries, fresh cream, vanilla and butterscotch. A fantastic Chardonnay to serve with creamy chicken or fish dishes, hard cheeses or leafy summer salads.
White Wine Sea Sun by Caymus Chardonnay 2018. Sea Sun wines are produced by Charlie Wagner, whose family has a long winemaking tradition. His ancestors arrived in California in the mid-1850s, from the wine regions of Alsace in France and Rheinpfalz in Germany, and started to grow their own grapes. And in 1972, his father and grandparents founded Caymus Vineyards, one of the oldest operating wineries in Napa Valley. The grapes come from vineyards in the coastal counties of Santa Barbara, Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Solano, where the cool ocean breezes and a prolonged ripening season lead to greater complexity in the wine. The subtle differences between the pedoclimatic characteristics of the various regions result in an interesting variety of aromas and flavors. This elegant Californian wine is characterized by the varietal fruitiness of the Chardonnay, with perfectly integrated acidity and delicate oak tones. On the nose, ripe pears meet delicious apples and mango with hints of buttery and toasted caramel that transport pleasantly throughout the medium body with a round and creamy mouth sensation. Smooth and ready to drink now. Try it with baked trout, butter poached fish dishes, roast chicken, or turkey.
