White Wine Pasqua Pinot Grigio 2021. Drink it now. No need to decant Pasqua is a historic winery producing quality wines that has become, over time, one of the leaders in the Italian and foreign market. It is also a family business with almost a century of history. It was indeed founded in 1925 in Verona, from the Pasqua family’s love for viticulture, and the production of fine wines. Their adventure began first in Valpolicella and then spread to the east coast of Lake Garda and to the most prestigious hills of the Soave appellation. The grapes are fermented with selected yeasts at a temperature of about 16-18° C, and the final wine is left in stainless steel tanks until bottling to preserve its fresh notes and liveliness. Pasqua Pinot Grigio is a fragrant, fruity wine, light but with a nice mouthfeel. In the glass, it shows a bright yellow color with greenish reflections. On the nose, it has floral scents reminiscent of the scent of acacia flowers, with hints of pear and a gentle touch of citrus. It is easy to drink, fresh, with a perfectly balanced gentle acidity. It is the ideal aperitif for a sunny afternoon with friends, but it goes very well with fresh salads, appetizers, or light fish-based dishes. Enjoy it now chilled at 10-12 °C.

White Wine Livio Felluga Pinot Grigio 2021. The Livio Felluga estate is blessed with both a remarkable history and incredible wines. The family has been making wine for five generations, first in Istria and then after the turmoil of the First World War in nearby Friuli in Italy. Livio Felluga, whose name the estate bears, moved to the region in the 1930s only to be dragged away when he was called up and drafted into the army in the Second World War. It wasn’t until the 1950s that Livio was able to return to his dreams of making wine and purchased the first few acres of the estate. Today the family work around 135 hectares of hillside vineyards which produce sensational fresh and perfumed white wines like this Pinot Grigio. Conditions on the hills are ideal for Pinot Grigio since the cooler nights help to preserve acidity in the grapes and create delicate aromatics in the finished wine. To showcase the pure character of the Pinot Grigio the family ferments the grapes in stainless steel tanks and then ages the wine on the lees for six months to give a rounded texture and additional complexity. The nose is led by succulent aromas of melon, ripe pear and grapefruit while the palate offers a vibrant acidity, light body and rich brioche and honey flavours. There are also subtle hints of minerality which make this an excellent match for oysters.

White Wine Matusko Posip 2021. The family-owned Matusko winery is run by a quirky local biker and occupies a remarkable site on breathtaking steep cliffs facing the azure Adriatic sea on the Peljesac Peninsula. Although not yet well known outside of Croatia, this boutique winery has built a solid reputation for producing sensational dusky reds and bright whites which express the essence of the local terroir. The Posip grape is an indigenous variety found almost exclusively in Croatia and tends to make balanced, elegant wines like this example from Matusko. The winery sources the Posip grapes for this wine from the variety’s homeland, the nearby island of Korčula, and then vinifies them onsite. The result is a bright and lively white which opens with hints of lemon zest, honeysuckle, green apples, and pears. The first sip reveals a vibrant acidity, light body, and attractive flavour profile with notes of white peaches, citrus, grapefruit, and caramel which linger long on the tongue. The fresh character makes this wine ideal to enjoy as an aperitif or to serve alongside leafy summer salads, creamy risottos, or simple pan-fried fish dishes. It would also make an excellent partner for fresh seafood such as prawns, oysters, and scallops.
