White Wine Movia Exto Gredic 2021. No need to decant before drinking. Originally founded in 1820, the Movia winery and estate is located in Slovenia’s Brda appellation in the village of Ceglo, just a stone’s throw away from the Italian border. Movia became one of Europe’s most famous wineries following World War II and is widely recognized in the wine industry for putting Slovenia on the map as a serious wine region. Today, Movia is led by winemaker Aleš Kristančič who is recognized for his commitment to organic and biodynamic farming practices. Movia primarily grows and works with Rebula, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Pinot Noir, all without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or other chemicals. Movia’s Exto Gredic is made from 100% Friulano (also called Sauvignonasse), a grape indigenous to Friuli. It produces wines that are straw yellow in color with ripe golden hues and glossy texture on the mouthfeel. Exto Gredic opens with aromatics of melon, pear, and yellow grapefruit mixed with hints of fresh-cut grass, peach tea, white pepper and vanilla. The mouthfeel is soft and rounded with lively freshness and unmistakable minerality. Flavors of orange, lemon tart, and honey linger in a long-lasting finish. This wine can be enjoyed on its own or with a variety of dishes including salads, burrata and pesto, grilled poultry, and seafood.

White Wine Movia Sivi Pinot Grigio 2021. Widely considered one of Slovenia’s top artisanal wineries, the Movia estate actually dates back to 1700 and has been in the hands of the Kristančič family since 1820. Today the family specialises in biodynamic winemaking using traditional methods and a combination of both local and international varieties to produce some very special wines. In total the family has 18 hectares of vines located in the Goriška Brda region with approximately half of their holdings lying on the other side of the border in Italy. This elegant Pinot Grigio is made in a classic Movia style from older vines which are harvested as late as possible. The vines have an average age of 35 years and tend to produce smaller quantities of intense and concentrated fruit. Fermentation takes place in large tanks using wild yeasts and the wine is then aged in barrels on the lees for 18 months. The result is a very unique style of Pinot Grigio that is dripping in rich honey flavours and hints of green walnuts and bitter almonds. On the palate there is a creamy texture, full body, and gentle tannins which give structure and longevity to the wine. A truly excellent example of an artisanal orange wine made from the classic Pinot Grigio grape.

White Wine Framingham Noble Riesling 2021. Serve well chilled. Framingham was founded in 1981 by Rex Brooke-Taylor, an engineer from Wellington, who planted his first vineyard in the Wairau Valley in Marlborough in that year. Rex chose to name his new venture after his ancestors’ hometown in England and the first wine to be released under that label was a 1994 Riesling. Since those early days Riesling has been one of the key varieties produced at Framingham and today the estate has some of the oldest Riesling vines in Marlborough. This stunning example is a late harvest Riesling which is crafted from grapes that have been left out during the autumn until they are affected by botrytis or noble rot” as it is often known. This process helps to concentrate and intensify the flavours and aromas in the grapes and reduces the water content, resulting in a rich and sweet dessert wine which is perfectly balanced with refreshing acidity. Apricots, honey and citrus characterise the nose, while the first sip reveals a luscious sweetness harmonised by a bright acidity and intense dried fruit and tropical fruit flavours that linger long on the tongue. Try pairing this luxurious dessert wine with blue cheeses, crème brûlée, or even foie gras to provide a counterpoint to the sweetness and rich flavours of the wine.
