White Wine Markus Huber Vision Organic Gruner Veltliner 2021. No need to decant. Markus Huber, a 10th generation winemaker in Southern Austria, has been helping put Austrian wines on the world stage. Growing up around the vineyard and cellar, he made the commitment in 2000 to turn his parents small 4 hectare project into a real wine operation. With a strict philosophy on sustainability and zero compromise in the vineyard or cellar, Huber’s vineyards are cultivated organically and the entire winery is certified according to the Sustainable Austria” criteria. Gruner Veltliner, considered one of Austria’s most important grape varieties, is known for its crisp acidity, stone fruit profile and peppery finish. Planted on mainly conglomerate and loess soils, the Vision Gruner Veltliner is hand sorted to include only the physiologically ripe grapes. Fermented in stainless steel and left for another 3 months on lees contact in tank, the Gruner Veltliners of Markus Huber demonstrate why many people are falling in love with this variety. Notes of yellow apple, citrus, white peach and honey fill the glass. Fresh pear with a touch of pepper make their way through as well. On the palate is a mineral-driven crunchiness with hints of saline and bursting acidity that leave the mouth salivating. The perfect pairing for hot days, picnics and seafood inspired meals. Try with fish, salads, fresh fruit and a variety of cheeses.

White Wine Matua Sauvignon Blanc 2021. The name Matua” means head of the family” in New Zealand’s native Maori language, which is appropriate given that the winery made the country’s first Sauvignon Blanc back in 1974. The winery was originally founded in a modest tin shed by two brothers, Bill and Ross Spence, who had a vision to make New Zealand wine that could compete on the global wine scene. They’re now recognised as one of the country’s premier producer, with a wide range of award-winning wines. This stunning 100% Sauvignon Blanc is reminiscent of the brothers’ very first bottle which helped kickstart New Zealand’s Sauvignon revolution. The fruit comes from prime vineyard sites in Marlborough which is known for its cool climate and ideal growing conditions for the variety. Zingy passionfruit, gooseberries, and fresh herbal notes dominate on the nose, while the first sip reveals a bright citrus fruit core with a mouthwatering freshness. The finish is pure and clean, making it a great wine to serve as an aperitif or to cleanse the palate alongside creamy cheeses, roast chicken, or hearty pasta dishes. It’s also a natural match for anything from the sea, including fresh oysters, grilled fish, and shrimp.

White Wine Meerlust Chardonnay 2021. The tradition of winemaking in Meerlust is as deeply ingrained as the soil beneath its vines. Eight generations of Myburghs have owned the Stellenbosch estate, each passing down a standard of excellence that can be tasted in today’s wines, produced by Hannes Myburgh. Meerlust estate is situated at one of the most southerly points of Africa, on a granite outcrop pointing towards False Bay. Its soils exhibit a top layer of granite gravel, sitting atop an ancient clay deposit. Chardonnay has been produced here since 1995 and is primarily planted along the banks of the Eerste river, where soils range from decomposed granite to weathered shale. It has an intoxicating and complex bouquet – peach, pear and apricot fruits are complemented by notes of almonds and lemon peel. In the glass, it is a beautiful pale yellow colour, with a greenish hue. This Chardonnay has been sourced from 6 different blocks of vineyard, allowing it to fully express both its sweet fruitiness and citrus acidity. Stone fruits are dominant on the tongue, supported by a crisp acidity, which continues into the long, pleasurable finish. Pairs well with grilled fish, white and red meats, or creamy dishes.
