White Wine La Scolca Solui 2020. La Scolca has been run by the same family since 1917 when the great-grandfather of current owner Giorgio Soldato first bought the property. Working alongside Giorgio is his daughter, Chiara Soldati, who represents the fifth generation of the family to make wine here. Today La Scolca has a cult following around the globe thanks to the winery’s classic Gavi wines made from the local Cortese grape which represent the very best of the region. Chiara has recently expanded La Scolca’s repertoire to include exciting, modern wines like this brand-new white wine which is named after her mother, Luisa. Made exclusively from estate-grown fruit, this cuvee is composed of Sauvignon Blanc and indigenous Piedmontese white grape varieties. The must is fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the natural character and freshness of the grapes. The delicate nose is bursting with fresh lemon zest, lime, grapefruit and aromatic jasmine and honeysuckle notes while the first sip reveals a crisp freshness, light body and very clean finish. The elegant flavour profile and citrusy aromas make this a great wine to enjoy as a refreshing aperitif or to enjoy alongside sushi, seafood, grilled fish, leafy salads or even spicy Asian curries and noodle dishes.

White Wine La Valentina Spelt Oro Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Superiore 2020. Drink it now. No need to decant. Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Superiore DOC Spelt Oro is an elegant white wine from the La Valentina farm, founded in the early 1990s in Spoltore, not far from Pescara. Their objective is to create products linked to their territory in total respect for the environment. Human intervention is reduced to a minimum so that the final result is healthy and genuine. In line with the winery’s philosophy, there is a specific focus on native vines, in this case, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo. The ripening of the grapes is favored by the climatic conditions and altitude but also by the clayey character of the soil. Fermentation takes place in contact with indigenous yeasts and the wine is then aged for four months in steel tanks to maintain its remarkable freshness of flavors. This refined Trebbiano has a bright golden yellow color. The nose is intense, with clean aromas of stone fruit and mineral sensations. There are also hints of bitter oranges and Mediterranean herbs. It is a charming wine and, on the palate, it has a full and rich body with a beautiful freshness and a savory finish of long persistence. Try it with fish preparations, white meat or vegetarian quiches.

White Wine Les Vins de Vienne Condrieu La Chambee 2020. No need to decant, but best to open it an hour before serving. The qualities of the Seyssuel vineyards, in the Rhone Valley, were already praised in ancient times by the Latin author Pliny the Elder. The area remained famous until the end of the 19th century when phylloxera prevailed. And it was only in the early 1990s that three winemakers, Yves Guilleron, Pierre Gaillard, and François Villard, decided to bring it back to life, creating the Domaine des Vins de Vienne. The Condrieu La Chambee Les Vins de Vienne is a 100% Viognier coming from granite and loess soils. The wine ages for 9 months on lees in French oak barrels, acquiring roundness and complexity. The name Chambée recalls a local viticultural practice: during the spring removals, the winemakers move the soil from the vine to the center of the row. Each drawing width is called a “chambee This Condrieu is a wine of absolute elegance that conquers with the exuberance of its fine bouquet in which aromas of stone fruit, apricot, white peach, and flowers stand out. In the mouth, it is refined, persistent, and complex and reveals a full and generous structure perfectly balanced by a nice acidity. It is a wine to be tasted at around 15 degrees or to be kept in the cellar for a few years.
