White Wine Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri 2018. Part of the JSC Corporation Kindzmarauli, the Koncho & Co winery manages approximately 30 hectares of vineyards in the Kelibardebi microzone in the Kakheti wine region. The history of the winery, one of the oldest in Georgia, can be traced back to 1533. Over the centuries, the company has changed various owners, and was eventually acquired by the Konchoshvili family in the 19th century. Mtsvivani Khakhuri is an ancient Georgian white grape, practically extinct after the Soviet era and rediscovered and spread by the winemaker Tamaz Konchoshvili. The production quantity is limited to 8000 kg/hectare. The wine is fermented according to an ancient tradition in the famous Qvevri terracotta pots, where it is aged for 6 months before being left to mature partly in 7000 l wooden barrels and partly in used barriques, for a year. This splendid amber wine (Orange wine) reveals delicious notes of pear, peach, nuts, fennel and green tea. On the palate, the wine is round and complex with a marked acidity that makes it extremely lively and pleasant. Like most orange wines, the Koncho & Co Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri is particularly suitable for pairing with spicy dishes of Asian cuisine, aromatic cheeses, and with the typical Turkish Mezes.

White Wine Leeuwin Estate Art Series Riesling 2018. One of the pioneering wineries in Margaret River in Western Australia, the story of Leeuwin Estate dates back to 1969 when local businessman Denis Horgan purchased the property. Three years later the estate was visited by the famous American winemaker Robert Mondavi who had realised the high potential of the Margaret River region and advised the Horgans during the early years of the project. Today Leeuwin Estate is best known for their sensational Art Series Chardonnay which has a cult following thanks to the property’s exceptional microclimate and very low yields. Also from their Art Series is this stunning Riesling made from estate-grown fruit. The variety thrives here thanks to the sunny summer days and cooling sea breezes which help to lock in plenty of zingy freshness and delicate aromatics. The vibrant nose is bursting with lemongrass, lime, jasmine and hints of basil and kaffir leaf while the first sip reveals a mouthwatering acidity, light body and pure, clean finish with a subtle salty minerality. The crisp and elegant flavour profile makes it a great match for sushi, seafood, grilled fish or leafy summer salads. Ideal for enjoying now or cellaring for another couple of years if desired.

White Wine Lis Neris Gris Pinot Grigio 2018. Lis Neris is located close to the border with Slovenia in the north-eastern Italian region of Friuli which is famed for its crisp and elegant white wines. The property has been owned by the Pecorari family since 1879 and today it is in the capable hands of Alvaro Pecorari who works some 70 hectares of prime vineyards in the Isonzo Valley. Conditions here are ideal for producing vibrant whites thanks to the gravel soils which absorb heat during the day and release it at night, helping the fruit to ripen evenly and fully. This stunning single varietal Pinot Grigio is sourced from a specially selected vineyard planted with older vines. The grapes are carefully harvested and sorted by hand and the must is fermented in large 500 litre oak casks. The young wine is then matured on the lees for 11 months with battonage or lees stirring” to add extra complexity and texture. After bottling the wine is then cellared for a further 12 months before release. The result is a lively, richly-layered wine which is bursting with fresh citrus and tropical fruit on the nose. On the palate there is a mouthwatering acidity tempered by a well-rounded, creamy texture, medium body and light vanilla and toasted hints from the maturation.
