White Wine Inama Vigneto du Lot Soave 2018. Giuseppe Inama slowly began to piece together the land that would become Azienda Agricola Inama in the 1950s, using his savings to purchase small plots bit by bit. These days the estate is still in the hands of the same family and has over 30 hectares of organically-farmed vineyards in the Soave Classico region of the Veneto. The family’s Vigneto du Lot Soave is a single vineyard bottling from a fantastic south-west facing site planted on volcanic soils on the Monte Fascarino. The vines here are grated onto ancient Rupestris Du Lot rootstock which helps to produce intensely-flavoured and perfumed grapes. The must is fermented in a combination of new and used oak barrels followed by ageing on the lees for 6 months. The wine then spends a further 6 months in stainless steel with the fine lees to add even more complexity and character. Elderflower, bright citrus, and toasted almond notes delight the nose, while on the palate hints of ripe tropical and stone fruits come to the fore. There is a bright streak of acidity which is perfectly balanced by the medium body and creamy texture. The well-rounded yet fresh flavour profile make this an excellent gastronomic wine which is equally at home alongside fish, chicken, risottos, and hearty seafood pasta dishes.

White Wine Allram Ried Renner Gruner Veltliner 2018. Michaela Haas-Allram and her husband Erich inherited the running of her parents’ estate in 1992 and since then the couple has helped cement Allram’s position as one of the Kamptal’s premier wineries. The estate benefits from exceptional plots in many of the Kamptal’s finest crus, including Heiligenstein, Gaisberg, and Renner, where the steep slopes overlooking the Kamp river are ideal for premium white winemaking. This elegant Gruner is crafted with fruit from their prized Renner vineyard. As with all their other vineyards, the plot is farmed organically and sustainably to help produce the very best raw ingredients for their wines. Once in the winery the fruit is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to lock in the natural freshness and varietal character. The young wine is then left over the winter to age on the lees for 5 months in large oak casks. Bursting with character and intensity, this is an opulent style of Gruner with a creamy texture, medium body and powerful notes of ripe orchard fruit, zingy ginger, gentle floral notes, and plenty of vibrant citrus. Enjoy as an aperitif or pair with everything from grilled fish and roast chicken to leafy salads and creamy cheeses.

White Wine Auvigue Pouilly-Fuisse Hors Classe 2018. No need to decant. The Auvigue brothers are the third generation of this family business whose vineyards are located on the calcareous soils around the Roche de Solutré. A total of 14 different wines are bottled by the Auvigue family and marketed in-house. Today the story continues with the arrival at the end of 2015 of Sylvain Brenas, grandson of Jean-Pierre and Michel, who is committed to preserving the style and spirit of the house. The 100% Chardonnay grapes come from the village of Solutré-Pouilly on clayey limestone soil of the Cretaceous period. The harvest is manual and the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in barrels. The wines are then aged on fine lees in barrels until final assembly, one month before bottling. The Pouilly-Fuisse Hors Classe is produced only in the very best years and in limited quantities. In the glass, it displays a golden color enlivened by straw-yellow reflections. On the nose, it releases enchanting aromas by combining finesse and elegance with gentle notes of white flowers and peony. On the palate, it is broad and deep, with a salty freshness that lightens everything and pleasant fruit ripeness. Enjoy it on its own or serve it with fish or white meat with white sauce dressing.
