White Wine Domaine Sigalas Kavalieros 2020. No need to decant. Located on the northern tip of Santorini, just under a kilometer from the sea, the Domaine Sigalas is one of the most iconic wineries in the whole country. This wine is made from the indigenous Assyrtiko grape, grown in a single plot called Kavalieros, located in the village of Imerovigli. The climatic conditions of Santorini, particularly dry and characterized by the violent gusts of the Meltemi, have led, since ancient times, to cultivate the vine on the ground, in small holes, wrapping the shoots on themselves to form a sort of circular basket. The long shoots of the vines – which are about 60 years old – are rolled up on the ground, to protect the bunches from the sun’s rays and winds that typically shake the island. The soil is volcanic, rich in magnesium and iron, with small percentages also of pumice stone. The must ferments in steel tanks, and then refines for 18 months again in steel. The Domaine Sigalas Kavalieros shows a beautiful and bright straw yellow color. The impact on the nose is generous and intense with touches of exotic fruit mixed with some island aromatic herbs and a mineral background. In the mouth, it is medium-bodied and round, with a concentration and freshness. Try it with grilled fish or pasta with clams.

White Wine DoReMi Goruli Mtsvane 2020. Mamuka Tsiklauri and Giorgi Tsirghvava are two childhood friends and wine lovers who founded the DoReMi winery. They did not have an oenological background even though their parents and grandparents had always produced homemade wines, using the modest yields of the vines from their own garden. The first bottles of the DoReMi winery were marketed in 2014. The international interest and growing attention towards the Georgian wine market then led them to further experimentation, and today DoReMi produces more than 10 different amber, white and red wines from different varieties coming from the regions of Kakheti, Kartli and Imereti. Goruli Mtsvane is an indigenous variety from the Kartli region of Georgia, whose name derives from the city of Gori, and is not to be confused with the Kakheti Mtsvane grape which is a completely different variety. This distinctive orange wine has a captivating amber color with golden highlights. The nose is pronounced and complex with aromas of banana, apricot, cinnamon, peach and white flowers. The acidity is vibrant but well balanced by a good fruit structure and a strong tannic backbone. The finish is medium long with pronounced flavors of banana, pineapple, honey, orange and cinnamon. Perfect with veal or pork.

White Wine DoReMi Kisi 2020. DoReMi was founded in 2012 by Giorgi and Mamuka, two friends with a common passion for quality wine. The winery is located in the Georgian wine region of Kakheti, in the village of Ozhio, close to the Alazani River and north of the Caucasus Mountains. The vineyards, located in the regions of Kartli, Imereti and Kakheti, are organically cultivated. The wines are produced according to ancient local traditions, with no industrial yeast or additives in the process, and fermentation and aging in Qvevri, the traditional clay pots used in Georgia. This wine is made with 100% indigenous Kisi grapes organically grown. Fermentation takes place in Qvevri according to the traditional Georgian winemaking techniques. The DoReMi Kisi is an orange wine with pungent aromas of apricot, quince, fig, red baked apple, and sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with nice fruity intensity and soft tannins. The acidity is balanced and the finish is elegant and long. The wine shows a good aging potential and works very well with roast turkey and chicken, veal, and mountain hard cheese.
