White Wine Delaporte Sancerre Blanc Chavignol 2021. No need to decant. On the very beautiful terroirs of Chavignol, Matthieu Delaporte took over the reins of his family estate in 2010, succeeding his grandfather Vincent. He decided to restructure the 33-hectare estate, and started working the soil without herbicides, and with lower yields. In addition to manual harvesting since 2015, the Delaporte estate has been engaged in conversion to organic farming since 2020. At Delaporte, the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grape varieties share the spotlight, and the estate’s finest cuvées, notably Silex and Mont Damnés in white and Cul de Beaujeu in red, show an exceptional level of quality. Sancerre Blanc Chavignol reveals an exceptional intensity of ripe fruit on the nose and excellent freshness in the mouth. It appears in beautiful pale gold, well imbued with green nuances. The olfactory profile is particularly complex with aromas of white flower, rhubarb, blackcurrant, kiwi, and discreet exotic touch. On the palate, it is round and soft. A nice freshness sets in gradually, turning into a delicate vivacity on the finish. It’s all balanced and harmonious, with a beautiful and long aromatic aftertaste. This Sancerre is a delicious aperitif and works well with shellfish, roasted poultry, and raw fish.

White Wine Delaporte Sancerre Blanc Silex 2021. No need to decant. Passed down from father to son since the 17th century, Domaine Delaporte is located in the heart of Sancerrois, in the village of Chavignol. Since 2010, Matthieu Delaporte, grandson of Vincent Delaporte, is in charge of the 33 hectares of vines that make up the Delaporte estate, mainly planted with Sauvignon Blanc (75% of the vineyard). Matthieu has brought a wind of modernity into the estate by introducing manual harvesting and an organic approach, to highlight the personality of each of the terroirs. The grapes come from vines over 50 years old. After reaching maximum maturity in October, the grapes are harvested by hand and introduced in whole bunches in the pneumatic press. The pressing is light and slow to obtain a clear juice of the highest quality. The must is then placed in 600-liter barrels for fermentation. Production is limited to around 20 barrels each year. It remains there for 12 months before bottling. The color is clear with golden reflections. On the nose, the wine shows great finesse with delicate aromas of white flowers, very ripe exotic fruits, and mineral notes. On the palate, it is a silky, delicate, and sensual wine, with a lot of richness and complexity in the finish. There is a good balance between alcohol and acidity, and some gentle and well integrated woody notes. Try with shellfish or seafood.

White Wine Di Meo Fiano di Avellino 2021. No need to decant. The Di Meo winery was founded in the 1980s when the brothers Erminia, Generoso, and Roberto Di Meo took over the historic farm of their parents, located a few kilometers from Avellino, in the municipality of Salza Irpina. The property, which once belonged to the Caracciolo Princes, is surrounded by gentle and breezy hill slopes, dominated by a characteristic 18th-century hunting lodge. The company produces excellent wines from the most common native varieties in Irpinia, such as Fiano, Greco, Aglianico and Coda di Volpe. The Fiano di Avellino of the Di Meo winery is produced with 100% Fiano grapes, coming from twenty-year-old vines located on predominantly clayey soil at an altitude of about 520 m a.s.l. The harvest is manual, and after a soft pressing of the grapes, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine is then aged for about 3 months in steel, and then for 3 additional months in the bottle. In the glass, the wine shows a brilliant straw yellow color. The nose is very intense with a prevalence of fruity notes of peach and pear, papaya and lychee, and citrus, together with a delicate and interesting mineral trace. It is a balanced wine, easy to drink, and has notable persistence and pleasant finesse. Serve it chilled at around 10°C. Try it with fish, especially sea bream or baked turbot, potato pie, ricotta, spinach ravioli, and vegetarian pies.
