White Wine Danieli Kisi 2019. Olaf, and Eka are the enthusiastic couple who runs the Danieli winery. The organically grown grapes are carefully selected from south facing vineyards located in the rolling foothills of the Caucasus Mountains, in the main Northwestern Georgian wine region of Khakheti, near the small village of Argohky. In addition to Kisi, the Danieli winery produces wines based on other indigenous white grape varieties such as Mtsvane and Rkatsiteli, as well as the noble Mukuzani di Saperavi variety. The Danieli Kisi is made with 100% Kisi grape, an indigenous white variety with ancient origins, local to the area of Kakheti, one of the most prestigious wine regions of Georgia. Despite its high quality, the grape was abandoned and almost extinct until 2000, also due to the decline of Georgian vineyards following the Soviet collapse, but has been recently rediscovered. This European style Kisi wine shows a beautiful straw color and intense notes of tropical fruits, pear, apple, peach and melon. The taste is fresh and dry with medium alcohol and balanced tannins. It’s crisp on the finish and easy to drink. Try it with seafood or steamed fish.

White Wine DAOU Reserve Chardonnay 2019. Legendary Californian winemaker André Tchelistcheff has described this 212 acre estate in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles as a jewel of ecological elements”. Brothers Georges and Daniel Daou came across the site after a lengthy search throughout Napa Valley for the perfect terroir to make Bordeaux-style blends. The property is blessed with limestone-rich soils, which are reminiscent of those found in many of France’s top vineyards, and a sublime Napa climate which ensures perfect ripening of the grapes. The two brothers have sought to combine French winemaking traditions with New World power and vibrancy in their stunning wines which have quickly gained a cult following in the US and beyond. This enchanting white is made with hand-harvested fruit from two specific vineyards which produce some of the best Chardonnay in all of Paso Robles. They’re both located in the Willow Creek AVA which is the coolest Paso Robles sub-appellation thanks to its proximity to the ocean. The combination of a cool climate and calcareous soils helps to produce a wine of tremendous refinement, boasting a natural freshness and delicate minerality enhanced by maturation in French oak barrels. Pink grapefruit, white peach and ripe apricot notes dominate on the nose, while the first sip reveals a creamy texture, full body, and bright streak of acidity that cleanses the palate on the long finish. Keep in the cellar for a few more years or enjoy now alongside pan-seared salmon, roast chicken, or creamy pasta dishes.

White Wine Decugnano dei Barbi Pourriture Noble 2019. Decugnano dei Barbi is a family winery, founded in 1973 after Claudio Barberi fell in love with the natural beauty of the region. His sole aim has always been to make top-class wines, driven by the area’s terroir. The estate is found near Orvieto in Umbria, by far the region’s most renowned wine town. Wine was produced by monks at the estate as far back as 1212, but the land lay dormant for some time before falling into Claudio’s hands. While Umbria is the only Italian region that does not border the ocean or another country, the land used to lie under an ancient sea. Its mineral-rich soil is ideal for growing the famous white wine grapes of Umbria. This wine is a deep golden colour, generous in its aromas and flavours. It is crafted exclusively from overripe grapes affected by Botrytis, which results in exquisite dessert wines. Pourriture Noble” treads the line between sweetness and acidity perfectly. Apricot, mango, chestnut and honey all collide on the nose, with subtle floral notes. It is dense and creamy on the palate, and dried fruits are present through its long finish. Enjoy it as an after-meal treat, or pair it with tangy blue cheeses and liver dishes.
