White Wine Clos Pegase Mitsuko’s Vineyard Chardonnay 2019. One of Napa’s premier estates, Clos Pegase boasts a stunning modern winery designed by top architect Michael Graves and 450 acres of vineyards set in the volcanic hills close to Calistoga. The estate’s largest holding is the 365 acre Mitsuko vineyard in Los Carneros which is home to a wealth of microclimates which have been carefully analysed and planted with appropriate grape varieties. This single varietal Chardonnay comes from fruit planted in an area which benefits from cooling breezes from the San Pablo Bay. These help to preserve freshness and balance in the ripe grapes at harvest time, and the fruit is harvested early in the morning to ensure it arrives at the winery in optimal condition. The wine is partially fermented in oak barrels and then matured in the barrels with battonage or lees stirring for 9 months. Bright citrus zest, peach and melon characterise the nose while the palate offers a rich, creamy texture, full body and intense ripe stone fruit flavours along with hints of brioche, coconut and vanilla. The bold flavour profile is carefully balanced by a crisp acidity which makes this a versatile gastronomic wine. It’s ideal for pairing with creamy cheeses, pan-fried fish dishes or roast chicken.

White Wine Cloudy Bay Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc 2019. No need to decant. Founded by David Hohnen in 1985 in the Marlborough region of New Zealand, the Cloudy Bay winery is located in a landscape of great beauty between the Pacific Ocean and the Richmond Range, at the entrance to the homonymous bay. Its wines, produced with the utmost respect for the environment, are the distinctive expression of a great terroir. The vineyards are located for the most part in Marlborough, which is the most important wine area in New Zealand for Sauvignon Blanc. Cloudy Bay Te Koko is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc, obtained from a selection of grapes from six individual plots on gravelly and sandy soils, and vinified and aged in French oak barrels. In the glass, the Sauvignon Blanc Te Koko shows a bright straw yellow color. On the nose, it reveals the decisive aromatic profile typical of Sauvignon Blanc, with perfumes of apple, citrus and tropical fruit, and some honey notes. In the mouth, the wine is dry and fresh with gentle toasted and honeyed notes and good persistence. It is a wine that lends itself to many combinations with food, including vegetarian quiches and first courses based on seafood, such as spaghetti with clams. Serve it well chilled at 10/12 °C.

White Wine A Coroa Godello 2019. The Godello grape has been grown in Valdeorras in north-western Spain since Roman times, but it is only in recent years that it has been brought back from obscurity by a new generation of winemakers. The Lopez family have played a key role in this renaissance, running a vine nursery for many years and supplying the region’s winemakers with Godello vines. In 2002 Angel Lopez founded this winery to start making the family’s very own wines from 10 hectares of prime hillside vineyards. This stunning Godello is sourced from seven exceptionally steep vineyards in A Rua which sit at around 450 metres above sea level which are farmed organically. Growing grapes here is challenging due to the sloping plots that usually have to be worked by hand. In the winery the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks to capture the freshness and varietal typicity of the fruit and the terroir. On the nose there are classic Godello notes of dried herbs, fresh citrus and tropical fruit while the first sip reveals a medium body with plenty of mouthwatering freshness balanced by ripe stone fruit flavours. The distinctive flavour profile makes this a great wine to pair with roasted chicken or fish dishes served in a creamy sauce.
